CONFIDENCE MEN PAY ATTENTION. CATCH ME IF YOU CAN was a fine movie, but the book by Frank Abagnale that it was taken from was a fine book, and not everything from the book made it into the movie. Everything in the book illustrates how good a confidence man can be at paying attention to what other people are thinking. There came a time when Abagnale was lying low. He told other members of the new community he lived in that he was a retired doctor (although a very young one). Then a real doctor moved in to the community, and every time he ran into Abagnale, he talked about medicine with him. What could Abagnale do? He decided that every doctor feels insecure about keeping up with the latest medical news. Abagnale made a point of reading the latest advance sheets and bringing up the new developments with the doctor every time he ran into him. After a while, the other doctor changed the subject away from medicine every time it came up.
