“SWELL.†Because my father used some expressions from his youth all his life, I enjoy language of that period when I encounter it in O’Neill or O. Henry. I even forget and use it myself occasionally. Once a friend at work was telling a group of us about the vacation he was setting off on. I said that I hoped he would “have a swell timeâ€, and was met with gales of laughter.
