SECRETS OF COMPETITIVE EATING.

SECRETS OF COMPETITIVE EATING. I posted here about champion eaters who weigh less than 150 pounds and about a study which indicates that size is a disadvantage because “adipose tissue around the stomach is a competitive disadvantage because it prevents the stomach from expanding.” Now, as reported here, there has been a study by radiologists on the issue. Let me quote their summary: “The purpose of our investigation was to assess the stomachs of a world-class speed-eating champion and of a control subject during a speed-eating test in our gastrointestinal fluoroscopy suite to determine how competitive speed eaters are able to eat so much so fast.” You can get details at the site, which is conducted by a witty radiologist, but the conclusion (based on two observations) is that successful speed eaters expand their stomachs. (I found this link from Grand Rounds, which is hosted by various medical blogs. I found Grand Rounds through Instapundit.
