DISENFRANCHISING THE DISENFRANCHISED. Tim Noah in this article in Slate says authoritatively many of the things I said here and here. “By pushing to move their primaries to an earlier date, Florida and Michigan are essentially swapping de facto disenfranchisement for de jure disenfranchisement. Not a big deal.” He says something that I had not expressed. It is the news media and political establishment who choose the candidates. “[The necessary delegate count] will come not before but after the news media and the political establishment have already named the putative nominee.”
