A SKEPTIC ABOUT THE LUPERCAL. Mary Beard says here that she is not sure about whether the new find is the Lupercal. She is waiting for information about the entrance to the cave. She thinks that the entrance had to be accessible for purposes of celebrating the Lupercalia. There is a comment to the article by “DEMETRIOSX” which points out the Romulus myth seems to be a late invention. Romulus is supposed to have founded Rome in 753 B.C. The earliest reference to Remus and the wolf is in 296 B.C.
