SMALL TOWN SOCIAL STATUS.

SMALL TOWN SOCIAL STATUS. Dick Weisfelder in his comment about General MacArthur refers to David McCullough’s biography of Truman. One of the things that struck me in that book was that Truman’s mother-in-law felt that her daughter, Bess, had married beneath her. Truman’s family did not have the social status in their small town that his bride’s did. Not surprising. But even when Truman was President of the United States, his mother-in-law continued to believe that her daughter had married beneath her!
