THE BEST OF BOTH ACCENTS. Despite the other post today about the persistence of childhood pronunciations, I have been somewhat affected by living in the East for so long. My mother once interrupted me and asked me to count to ten. Sure enough, I said, “…seven, eight, “noy un”, “tay un.”

    I have to admit that I can’t hear the difference between “tay un” and “tee un.” It took me years to hear the difference in the pronunciation of “measure.”
