“BUT YOU LIKE EVERYTHING.”

“BUT YOU LIKE EVERYTHING.” The kids say this frequently to me when they disagree with my uncritical opinions on things. I wonder if this tendency of mine, which I admit to, comes from my upbringing by my Danish mother. My mother made every effort to teach me to like every kind of food on the theory that the more things you like, the better off you are. And expressing dissatisfaction with things was frowned upon. I took note of one of the comments in the BBC article linked in today’s other post that “Danes tend to be proud and taught not to complain (it is considered selfish).”

Annalisa is vexed that I don’t like enough food, so I suppose I’m not very Dane-like.

I think Grandma’s theory is logically correct, but the fact remains that as far as I know, it is not humanly possible to like EVERYTHING. Not even you like the taste of sea urchin. So, I suppose I fall somewhere between you and Lee on this issue. Lee, you have tried lots of new kinds of food since I’ve known you, and I’m happy every time you branch out.
