A TEST OF GOOD TASTE THAT I FAIL. A letter in the Financial Times for February 6 (from Roman Schlaeger of Glencoe, Illinois) protests the characterization in a previous article of the Victor Emmanuel monument in Rome as “monstrous.†I know that the consensus in the art world is that the monument is indeed monstrous. I acknowledge that sometimes at a quick glance it appears to me to be melting. But I have always taken pleasure in seeing it.
