STUMBLING ON A NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION. Everybody in the family is standing in line to read STUMBLING ON HAPPINESS by Daniel Gilbert, which was recommended by Jane Galt. I think we must all expect that it will be a how-to book. I did make a New Year’s Resolution to be more cheerful, influenced by recent articles that happiness depends on your point of view. The Resolution lasted until this morning, January 4, when my daughter Annalisa’s kitten, Bossy Boots, jumped with all four feet onto the waffle that my wife Mary Jane had just made me. I became cheerful again after about a minute and ate the waffle, but this cheerfulness business is harder than it first appears.
