TURNING A Ph.D THESIS INTO A DANCE. Melissa Korr had an article in the Wall Street Journal (November 13) about an annual competition for dance performances of Ph.D theses. Here is a YouTube video of an aerial dance for a mathematical thesis by Nancy Scherich, “Braids: Discrete Representations of the Braid Groups”.

And here is a YouTube video by Jacob Brubert about making a better prosthetic heart valve. The video features a dancing cow and pig and a hula hooping woman.

The contests offer prizes to winners in several fields, including biology, physics and the social sciences.
