YOU TOO CAN WORK OUT CARLSEN’S BRILLIANT FINAL MOVE. I have posted several times about Magnus Carlsen and his dramatic defense of his world championship against Sergey Karjakin. I had not looked at the last game and I had not appreciated just how dramatic the victory on the last move was until I recently read this article on Slate by Matt Gaffney—-wonderful sports writing.

See if you can find a forced mate in two for Carlsen playing white. You can look at the position just before Carlsen as white made his final move by clicking here and then clicking on black’s 49th move, king to h7 (49…kh7). See what you would play.
