THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE GLOBE THEATRE SAYS SHAKESPEARE MAKES HER SLEEPY. This article in the Daily Mail by Laura Lambert reports that Emma Rice, the new director of the Globe Theatre in London, has said that most of us are pretending to understand Shakespeare so we look clever (the quote is: “There is a club of theatre-goers that has studied and gets Shakespeare, but a lot of people pretend they get it in order to not look stupid.”) She has also said that reading Shakespeare’s plays made her “very sleepy”.
