“KNEELING UPON THE KNEES OF MY HEART”.

“KNEELING UPON THE KNEES OF MY HEART”. Some of the things in Mary Jane’s play that are based on the Elizabethan documents are surprising. In particular, some of the lines between the Earl of Essex and Queen Elizabeth are based on letters between them. The Earl of Essex is responsible for one line in the play that I find poetic: “And here I am now before you, kneeling upon the knees of my heart.”

Statesmen were more eloquent in those days.
