HUSBANDS FROM OUTER SPACE. I posted here about LUCKY ME, Sachi Parker’s moving autobiography about her relationship with her mother Shirley MacLaine. I avoided referring to possible spoilers, but I have just been reminded of something I found astonishing. SPOILER ALERT: Here is Craig Brown’s summary description of what happened in his review in the Daily Mail: “Sachi discovers that, for the past 20-odd years, her mom has been sending her dad $60,000 a month, having somehow been convinced by him that her real husband has been stuck in outer space all this time working on an expensive top-secret mission for the U.S. government, and that he himself is an exact clone, who forwards the money to the space station.” It is almost incredible that some one concocted that story and even more incredible that some one believed it.
Now, Darren Boyle, Snejana Farberov and Anneta Konstantinides report here in the Daily Mail that a man in California “convinced multiple women he was ‘a human-alien hybrid secret agent sent to save the human race”. The man, Jeffrey Alan Lash, died of cancer in early July, leaving behind 1,200 guns and 6.5 tons of ammunition and $230,000 in cash.
