A VIDEO OF A MAN EATING SURSTROMMING FOR THE FIRST TIME.

A VIDEO OF A MAN EATING SURSTROMMING FOR THE FIRST TIME. I have posted several times, including here, about surstromming, a Swedish delicacy which consists of fermented Baltic herring. Because of the smell, Swedes usually eat surstromming out of doors. A wikipedia entry on surstromming says that some airlines ban surstromming because of the danger of the cans exploding.

Here is an article by Harry Wallop in the Daily Telegraph about the first time Wallop tried surstromming. A video of the experience accompanies the article and opens when the link is clicked. Jonas Aurell, the founder of Scandinavian Kitchen, is shown on the accompanying video guiding Wallop through the experience. Aurell insisted that they meet in Hyde Park in order that the smell could escape on the breezes.

Aurell recommends eating surstromming along with sour cream, onions and new potatoes.

  1. Annalisa says:

I think I could die without having eaten surstromming and be happy about that.

  2. “It tasted AWFUL, but they told me, sniff, sniff, they told me it was a GREAT DELICACY. Please, can I never eat it again?”
