COULD THE JOURNALIST HAVE BELIEVED THE CON MAN?

COULD THE JOURNALIST HAVE BELIEVED THE CON MAN? Nathaniel Rich is critical of Walter Kirn because he thinks that Kirn had to have realized that Clark Rockefeller was a con man “over the course of their decade-long friendship”. and long before Rockefeller was exposed. Rich says about Kirn: “”It’s difficult to believe he was as credulous as he claims he was”. Among what Rich calls “whoppers” that Rockefeller told Kirn were his claim that he was a “‘freelance central banker”, supervising the economies of various foreign countries, including Thailand and, later, that he was overseeing the development of a spacecraft that would travel faster than the speed of light. Rich says that, in reading the book, it often seems that Rockefeller “wants to be found out”. And yet Kirn says he continued to be fooled.
