A COMPLETIST ANTICIPATES TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA. I posted here in 2010 about how I had just seen the Guerilla Shakespeare production of King John, the 32nd Shakespeare play that I had seen. (I posted the next day about what a good play King John is.) Since then I have seen an excellent production of Antony and Cleopatra at the Hartford Stage Company, bringing my total to 33. Now, Shakespeare on the Sound will be doing The Two Gentlemen of Verona, opening on the 12th if it doesn’t rain. This will be number 34, leaving 5 to go if you count Edward III. The play will be performed in a little natural amphitheater on the banks of the Five Mile River, two blocks down the hill from our house. We walked down tonight to check out the set. There is a low fence this year, and we could see part of the rehearsal. If my back gives me trouble, I have found that I can watch a performance in two parts on successive days.
