A SPAM COOK OFF IN HAWAII.

A SPAM COOK OFF IN HAWAII. I learned from Ann Zimmerman’s article that there is a Hawaii Spam cook off. (In looking it up on Google I found that there is also a Spam cook off in Austin, Texas). Spam is controversial. It was eaten so much during and after World War II that many people never wanted to eat it again. However, as this article by Eric Garza explains, Spam remains popular in Guam and Hawaii, whose residents are said to consume the most Spam per capita in the United States. (Spam, Garza says, is sometimes called the “Hawaiian Steak”). Garza’s article is entitled: “Spam: The Unlikely Hawaiian Delicacy”. Garza describes some of the Spam dishes in Hawaii, including “spam musubi, where cooked spam is combined with rice and nori seaweed”.
