THE UNITY OF LES MIS—SONGS.

THE UNITY OF LES MIS—SONGS. Another reason that one person singing all the parts in Les Mis works is that the songs are interrelated. If you like the score, they are echos; if you don’t they are repetitions. Google found me this post by Chrisdenman at MusicalsdotNet, who argues that the score of Les Mis is symmetrical in that there are a number of songs in the second act which are “symmetrical with” songs in the first act. He matches pairs of songs: “Valjean’s soliloquy is symmetrical with Javert’s suicide”. Master of the House is symmetrical with Beggars at the Feast.
