BOG SNORKELLING. As I posted here, I think of my Irish and Danish ancestors as being bog people, so I was excited to find out about the sport of bog snorkeling. This wikipedia article says that the sport “consists of competitors completing two consecutive lengths of a water filled trench cut through a peat bog, in the shortest time possible.” The distance is two laps totaling 120 yards. Only flipper power can be used—no swimming strokes. The sport originated in Wales in 1976. In addition to Wales, competitions are held in Australia, Ireland and Sweden. Here is a YouTube video showing a competition. Here is an announcement for the Irish bog snorkelling championships to be held September 13-15, 2013.
