THE CYPRUS CRISIS “GOES DOWN TO THE WIRE.” I woke up early five days ago and posted on the Cyprus crisis “poker game”. This article from Reuters by Michele Kambas and Costas Pitas describes the state of play today and says that the crisis is going “down to the wire”. (The article is being continually updated today). The article says that Cyprus has a deadline of Monday March 25, or the European Central Bank will cut off emergency cash to Cyprus banks, “spelling certain collapse and a potential exit from Europe’s single currency.” Reuters on March 21 had this article on leaked notes from a telephone conference of Euro-zone officials. The notes refer to “open talk in regards of (Cyprus) leaving the euro zone”.
