“IF YOU DON’T HAVE A QUESTION IN MIND, THERE’S FAR TOO MUCH TO LOOK AT.”

“IF YOU DON’T HAVE A QUESTION IN MIND, THERE’S FAR TOO MUCH TO LOOK AT.” Jackie Wullschlager had a review in the Financial Times (December 3/4) of new books about David Hockney. She quotes Hockney talking about Monet in an interview in a book by Martin Gayford (A BIGGER MESSAGE). “The best form of living I’ve ever seen is Monet’s….All he did was look at his lily pond….I assume he went with a question and found the answer….I’m just going to look at this. How do you really see the clouds reflected in the water?…If you don’t have a question in mind, there’s far too much to to look at.”
