THE COLORS OF THE NEW YORK SKY. This New York magazine post calls attention to a wonderful site devoted to showing the average color of the New York City skyline for five minute intervals. Here is the site. The rectangles show how rapidly the color changes. The 20 rectangles on each screen represent less than two hours of time. Click on a rectangle for a representative photo from the time interval and scroll down to get the effect of an entire day. Imagine a painter working in plein air. The light for what he is seeing and painting changes this rapidly. I am delighted to have this reminder of the changing visual beauty that I take for granted. I think the members of the Cloud Appreciation Society would also be happy.
