THE ROMANCE OF MIST AND SPACE.

THE ROMANCE OF MIST AND SPACE. Caspar David Friedrich is credited by the open window exhibit site with introducing the theme of the open window in two sepia drawings from 1805-6. Here is one of them, with the open window dominating the drawing. The website comment on this drawing calls it “the quintessential Romantic subject.” I posted here about this painting by Caspar David Friedrich, which is one of Nick’s favorites. It seems to me that the mist and the distance make this painting also a quintessentially Romantic work.
