THE PLEASURES OF BOREDOM.

THE PLEASURES OF BOREDOM. I posted here about the value for a lawyer of having a capacity for boredom. In this article in the Wall Street Journal (December 29), Gautam Naik reported on a conference which was attended by some 200 people who seemed to be interested in sharing their fondness for boredom. Another report, by Cahal Milmo in the Independent (October 7) on the agenda of the conference—which was entitled “Boring 2010”— is here. Some of the topics at the conference:

the beauty of car park roofs
a history of dust
cataloging one’s ties
milk tasting (like wine tasting).

The conference expresses a philosophy of life. The article in the Independent quotes the organizer of Boring 2010: “I want to make the point that things which might seem mundane or boring actually become interesting the more attention you pay to them.”
