MY FAVORITE BASEBALL MOVIE. My favorite baseball movie is still The Bad News Bears because of its truthfulness. But my favorite baseball segment in a movie—also because of its truthfulness—is from The Naked Gun. It’s the scene where Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) has disguised himself as an umpire and gets carried away with the drama of his calls, dancing and gesturing more emphatically with each call he makes. A scene where comedy is based on truth.

Loved, loved the baseball scene in Naked Gun, just for the reasons Phil gives. I hate hate Kevin Costner but loved Bull Durham. Perhaps baseball makes even Costner rise to the occasion. Unlike Robin Hood. (Alan, loved your Sheriff of Nottingham, baby.)
Alan Rickman and umpires everywhere, take note!
