A SPRINGTIME THOUGHT. Anthony Doerr, in FOUR SEASONS IN ROME, says: “In high spring, my tree guidebook says, inside a mature oak tree, rising sap can reach velocities of two hundred feet per hour. That’s three feet a minute.” I am reminded of Dylan Thomas: “The Force that Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower.”
