MAYBE THE OLDEST CONTINUOUS ROTISSERIE LEAGUE?

MAYBE THE OLDEST CONTINUOUS ROTISSERIE LEAGUE? Nick pointed out that the original Rotisserie league may have ceased operation at some point. The article I linked to yesterday contains this quote from Daniel Okrent, the man who had the idea for Rotisserie league baseball: “I stopped playing in 1995, and then started again in 2001 with some of the original guys.” Although I refer to our league as the second oldest fantasy baseball league, it may be the oldest that has been in continuous operation. (Of course, I add the qualification that there are likely others that are tied with it in longevity.)

Very good. What are the scoring rules? I remember that I was in a league in the early 70’s where we could pick five players in each of several categories, but there was no exclusivity on a player. Everybody could pick Wilbur Wood in wins, but you didn’t have to live with his other stats.

A friend of mine and I started a fantasy roto bet just before the 1970 season. The participants have changed through the years and the rules and procedures have become more complex, but there are still three of us who date our participation back to ’71 or ’72. We computerized in 2003 and now operate as the Wall Street Warriors through CBSSPORTS.com.

Our AL-only original format baseball rotisserie league – The Wolverine League – has been in existence since 1985.

  6. Baseball league started ’82. We had never heard of the rotisserie league so we made our own rules. Since this was before the internet we made the rules fairly simple, with no pickups. We now allow two, so basically we are a draft league. We started with eight friends in the league, seven which are still current as we choose our teams tomorrow (year 34). The second year we made a keeper league Our current league has ten members, and we have only had fourteen participants total.
