A CHRISTMAS TREE SUCCESS. I had one success in putting up Christmas trees. Early in our marriage, Mary Jane called me at work, near tears with frustration. We lived in a high-rise apartment on 14th Street. A man was selling Christmas trees right beside the entrance to our building, and Mary Jane had bought a small tree. It turned out that the tree had a second main branch at a forty-five degree angle from the trunk so that Mary Jane couldn’t get it to stand up. I knew what to do. When I got home, lots of picture frame wire and books solved the problem. Of course, we couldn’t walk in that corner of the apartment while the tree was up.
