DOES THE CENTER OF THE GALAXY TASTE LIKE RASPBERRIES? I began this blog two and a half years ago today with a post about how the remnants of the Big Bang affect our daily lives. Annalisa sent me this article which finds a link to our daily lives in a giant dust cloud “at the heart of the Milky Way.” The headline of the article is more poetic than scientific. Remarkably, astronomers have been able to detect a variety of large molecules, including alcohols, in deep space. The article reports on a discovery made when “astronomers sifted through thousands of signals from Sagittarius B2, a vast dust cloud at the centre of our galaxy. While they failed to find evidence for amino acids, they did find a substance called ethyl formate, the chemical responsible for the flavour of raspberries.”
