I posted here about how Beatrix Potter’s parents opposed her marrying a partner in her publishers because her father “wanted to put as much distance as possible between himself and the family’s origins in trade.†There is a weekly article in the Financial Times which recounts the adventures of an upscale British real estate agent. In this weekend’s article, his upper class associate, whom he relies on for her upscale contacts, reminds him, “Remember, you are trade.”
