STOPPARD AND THE FALL OF THE IRON CURTAIN. ROCK ‘N’ ROLL is one of the few works of fiction that I am aware of that have dealt with the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Iron Curtain. This was one of the most important historical events of my lifetime. As important as the event seems to me, it is not an event which has captured the imagination of many writers. It seems that the freeing of Eastern Europe was of importance mainly to East Europeans and to writers with East European roots.
