A DOUBLE LIFE. I bought JAMES TIPTREE, JR.: THE DOUBLE LIFE OF ALICE B. SHELDON by Julie Phillips because I had known Alice Bradley Sheldon when I was young. It turned out to be a great book. Alice lived a fascinating life and Phillips tells the story well. Her web site is here. I hope I give you enough information about the book in the next couple posts to induce you to read it. At the age of 52, Alice Bradley Sheldon adopted the pseudonym James Tiptree, Jr. for the science fiction stories she wrote, stories which were highly regarded in the science fiction world. Alice, as Tiptree, also carried on a lengthy and intimate correspondence with other science fiction writers. Alice published under the name of Tiptree for nine more years until her identity was accidentally discovered.
