THE COMEDY OF ERRORS– “TWINS, MARRIAGE AND IDENTITY.” I had looked forward to THE COMEDY OF ERRORS since I saw that James Shapiro (author of A YEAR IN THE LIFE WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 1599) had picked it as one of the five Shakespeare plays he would take to a desert island because of what it says about “twins, marriage and identity.” And what I liked most about the production at Shakespeare on the Sound was the conclusion, one set of reunited brothers going off together and then the other set going off together (with one of the servant twins saying the last lines of the play: “We came into the world like brother and brother; And now let’s go hand in hand, not one before another.â€)

I finally saw Comedy of Errors in Stratford.
The retiring artistic director used it as the vehicle to literally “gve the bird” to his critics overe the years when he had a toy penguin pulled across the stage during one scene with a sign “For the critics.”
It was totally slapstick throughout – not a bad way to play “Comedy of Errors moments” The Miles, who go with us each year, liked it too!
I love the toy penguin for the critics.
