A CHAMPION RALLIES. I had posted earlier about the threat that arthritis presented to Takeru Kobayashi’s career as a champion eater. Since then, Kobayashi had a wisdom tooth removed and chiropractic treatment, and yesterday he achieved a personal best of 63 HDB’s (hot dogs and buns) eaten in a twelve minute period. He gallantly stayed with Joey Chestnut, the eventual winner of the Coney Island Fourth of July hot dog eating contest until the final minute. Kobayashi and Chestnut were tied at sixty hot dogs, but Chestnut pulled away in the last minute to set a new world record of 66 HDB’s in twelve minutes.
