BASKETBALL–AN EXPERIMENT THAT FAILED.

BASKETBALL–AN EXPERIMENT THAT FAILED. A follow up on an earlier post. I had posted at the beginning of the basketball season that the Bulls this year would test the importance of defense versus offense for a basketball team. I had thought that the Bulls were unbalanced this year in emphasizing defense rather than offense. Charles Barkley had expressed the same thought. It turned out, however, that the Bulls were about the same on defense as in past years (using field goal percentage against as a metric) and some what better on offense than in past years because of improvement by young players. So the experiment never took place.

It will be a test of talent vs. the whining of Shaquille O’Neal

The Bulls have been a thing of beauty this year. They play with such joy and creativity. A band of brothers. I mentioned to Phil tonight that I missed out on Michael Jordan’s dream years with the Bulls, but I’m ready to watch him now! We have a DVD, I gather. Even though he is one of the all-time greats, though, I can’t imagine that his team will be as much fun to watch as the current one. The present team uses the whole team, rather than leaning on a great star.

But now they meet my Pistons!

The Pistons and Bulls, along with Utah, play a five man game, which I enjoy watching. Nick and I thought for years, long before he became a Bull, that Ben Wallace is the most underrated player in the game. For me, he is the second coming of Bill Russell. Dick, you have no idea how much Mary Jane has come to love the Bulls.

Now I truly understand the supreme influence of the Pater Familias, perhaps the most appropriately named blog on the whole internet!
